On April 23, 2024, dozens of T-Mobile employees in their Frisco corporate office filtered in and out of a large room where they rolled up their sleeves to donate blood and volunteer with the American Red Cross during the company’s Magenta Giving Month.
“It's really exciting, and it's another opportunity for employees to donate at whatever level they like to do,” said Bruny Papp, senior events manager for T-Mobile. “Giving blood is usually one of them, and we’ve volunteered and partnered with [the Red Cross] in the past. So, we're really excited to have the opportunity to do that again this year.”
T-Mobile employees like Vivian Calixte and Roel Espinosa took time out of their busy schedules to make appointments, donate and help patients in need. Calixte isn’t fond of needles, but she says the Red Cross phlebotomists made the blood donation experience easy.
“I am donating today as part of T-Mobile's Magenta Giving Month,” Calixte said. “When you come to donate, all you have to do is take a deep breath, and the Red Cross will do everything else. They really take care of you.”
Espinosa learned he could double his efforts with a Power Red donation. “I had no idea that I could double my blood donation this way. I will make Power Red donations from now on,” said Espinosa. “Help the Red Cross by donating blood. It helps the community and is your way of giving back.”
Each unit of blood can help save multiple lives. The Red Cross collected 48 units of blood during the drive. Several people made Power Red donations, allowing them to maximize their impact by safely donating two units of red blood cells during one donation.
T-Mobile partnered with the Red Cross for Magenta Giving Month, an initiative that occurs each April to encourage T-Mobile employees nationwide to contribute volunteer hours and donate to meaningful causes.
“We partner with different organizations around DFW, and really all across the country, to give back,” said District Manager at Metro by T-Mobile Brad Potts. “All of the volunteer hours that are put in by our team, such as the check-ins that we're doing, other volunteer hours and the donating of blood, [T-Mobile] will actually donate money to the organizations as well. So, it's a way to volunteer time.”
