Bernice Kearney is a Professional Executive Leadership and Life Coach who currently serves as our Secretary of the Board for the Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Before retiring in 2024, Bernice worked for more than 35 years in local news in Houston and San Antonio. She started out as a newscast producer, leading individual teams with a sense of urgency, a knack for the details, and a ferocious belief that local news is a vital service to the community. Through the years, she moved into larger leadership roles, guiding her teams through heartbreaking coverage of deadly weather events, terror attacks, wars, and a global pandemic. During the last 11 years of her broadcast and digital journalism career, Bernice led news divisions through transformational station and industry shifts. She understands that in an environment of constant change, intense challenge, and monumental uncertainty, you must be nimble, curious, and open to new opportunities. Now as a Professional Coach, Bernice works with people in transition - either by choice or by circumstance – who know they want to move confidently and boldly toward their next, amazing moment, but don’t know where to start.
In addition to her volunteer role with the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast Region, Bernice is an active member of the West U Rotary Club. She and her husband Paul live in Houston with their dogs Buddy and Bijou, and Verdell the Queen Cat in Residence.
