How did you first become involved with the Red Cross?
After the California wildfires in 2018, we began donating to the Red Cross, recognizing the critical support they provide during disasters. However, it was through conversations with my dear friend, Amy Currin, the Regional Chief Development Officer for the Northern California Coastal Region, that I truly grasped the organization's extensive impact. Amy's insights illuminated the depth and breadth of the Red Cross's initiatives, from disaster relief to blood drives and beyond, deepening my appreciation and commitment to their mission.
What inspired you to support the Red Cross initially and what keeps you giving?
I was initially drawn to the Red Cross because of their disaster relief efforts, particularly during the wildfires in California. Seeing the devastation firsthand and learning about the Red Cross’s role in not only responding to crises but also working to prevent and minimize their impact really resonated with me—especially in the face of the growing climate crisis.
Over time, my inspiration has expanded. I’ve become especially passionate about the Red Cross’s work with blood drives. I never realized just how many units of blood are required for something like a heart transplant until I had the chance to speak with cardiologists. Now, after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and becoming part of this community, I have many friends who are either heart transplant recipients or currently waiting for a donor. Knowing that the Red Cross plays such a vital role in ensuring there’s enough blood available for these life-saving surgeries has made my support even more personal and urgent.
Why did you join Tiffany Circle or what is your favorite part of being a TC member?
One of the biggest reasons I joined Tiffany Circle was the incredible community of women involved. Even though I’m still new and getting to know everyone, I’ve already been inspired by their passion, generosity, and dedication to making a difference. What excites me most is the opportunity to build real connections with like-minded women who share a commitment to philanthropy and service. It’s more than just giving; it’s about being part of a network that supports each other while making a real impact through the Red Cross. I’m looking forward to deepening these relationships and being part of something truly meaningful.
What words of wisdom would you share to someone considering becoming involved with the Red Cross?
I’d tell them to just do it! The Red Cross is such an incredible organization, and getting involved means you’ll be supporting a truly important cause. What’s great is that you can go as deep as you want into the areas that matter most to you, whether it’s disaster relief, blood donation, or other vital programs. Plus, you’ll meet amazing, like-minded people along the way. It’s a rewarding experience in so many ways, and there’s no reason to hesitate!
What is a personal or professional accomplishment you are most proud of?
I’m proud to be a board-certified medical physicist. After earning my doctorate in nuclear engineering, I dedicated my career to helping cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. My role is very clinical, and I love knowing that my work directly impacts people’s lives. In the hospital, we receive notifications when there is a blood shortage, and it’s a stark reminder of just how critical blood donations are. That’s one of the many reasons I’m so proud of the Red Cross’s efforts to prevent these shortages and ensure that life-saving treatments aren’t delayed. Being part of an organization that supports both the medical field and patients in such a vital way makes my involvement even more meaningful.
Anything else you'd like your fellow members to know about you?
I’m also a board member of the DCM Foundation and deeply passionate about raising awareness of the importance of genetic testing for cardiomyopathy patients. Many people don’t realize how vital genetic screening can be in identifying at-risk family members and guiding treatment decisions. Advocacy and education in this area are really important to me, and I love connecting with others who share a commitment to making a difference—whether in healthcare, philanthropy, or community support.
