CHICAGO, IL - The American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois today announced the appointment of Peggy Hardek, a Risk Assurance Partner at PwC, to the organization’s Board of Directors for the greater Chicago and northern Illinois region.
“Peggy Hardek brings a combination of talent and energy from decades of experience in the corporate sector to our leadership team that guides the strategic direction of our humanitarian services and programs in the community,” said Celena Roldán, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois.
Hardek is the leader of PwC’s Greater Chicago Risk Assurance practice with more than 30 years of experience with PwC serving companies in a range of industries providing internal audit, external audit and other risk management advisory services.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Board of such a critical and impactful organization in the community as the American Red Cross. I am excited to bring my experiences to help advise and guide Celena and her leadership team,” said Hardek.
Hardek’s career in risk advisory services has ranged from delivering large-scale, global internal audit outsourcing and co-sourcing programs for complex multinationals to enterprise-wide risk management assessments, SOx 404 internal control readiness and monitoring projects, internal audit quality assurance reviews, reviews of major IT system implementations, and a variety of highly specialized functional audits. A co-author of PwC's State of the Internal Audit Profession study, Hardek speaks frequently on internal audit and risk and governance matters at industry conferences and seminars.
Hardek graduated with high honors from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. in Accountancy. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The volunteer Board includes more than 30 civic and corporate leaders from a range of professional backgrounds for the region that serves 9.5 million people in 21 counties in northern Illinois.
