Red Cross Opening Shelter in Woodridge’s Thomas Jefferson Junior High School
American Red Cross volunteers with the Disaster Action Team are assisting people impacted by severe storms that affected Chicago’s far southwest suburbs on Sunday, including Naperville, Woodridge and Darien where a tornado touched down.
Since late last night, our volunteers have been helping those affected. We supported a reception center in Ranch View Elementary school in Naperville, where Red Cross volunteers provided food, water, health services, a place to gather and more.
Shelter opening - Today at 3 p.m., the Red Cross is opening an overnight shelter for residents who were displaced as a result of last night’s severe weather. The shelter will be located at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School located at 7200 Janes Avenue in Woodridge, Illinois.
Anyone impacted and in need of assistance, may call our 24/7 disaster hotline:
1-877-597-0747.
Severe Blood Shortage: Sign Up to Give Blood Today
Right now, the Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage as the number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries rise – and deplete the nation’s blood inventory. Donors of all blood types – especially type O and those giving platelets are urged to make an appointment to give as soon as possible to prevent further impact to patients.
As a thank-you, those who come to give June 14-30 will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card via email, courtesy of Amazon. (Restrictions apply. Additional information and details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Together.)
