American Red Cross volunteers and partners installed 280 free smoke alarms and provided home fire safety information during a recent event in Moline. The Red Cross plans to install 50,000 smoke alarms nationwide as part of the Sound the Alarm program. Here are photos from the Quad Cities event.
Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death in a home fire by 50 percent. A smoke alarm installation event is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 at the Monmouth Fire Department in Monmouth.

Home Fire Response
Red Cross volunteers responded to 3 home fires in the Quad Cities and West Central Illinois in the past week. Volunteers responded to incidents in Milan (Illinois), Saint David (Illinois) and Davenport (Iowa).
During this past week, the Red Cross provided assistance to 4 individuals, through supplying them with basic items to meet immediate needs after a fire, and additional support in the form of health and mental health services and one-on-one support as the families involved work through next steps after experiencing a home fire.
If you or someone you know needs assistance after a home fire or local disaster, please call our dispatch line: (877) 597-0747.
Home fires are our country’s most frequent disaster and claim seven lives every day in the U.S. To help protect your household, test your smoke alarms each month and practice your escape plan until everyone can get out in less than two minutes.
