On Giving Hearts Day this February 8, the American Red Cross will honor military families and veterans. Our brave service members contend with unique challenges — separation from loved ones, the mental strain of deployment and of course, the risk of physical injury and even death.
“While we can’t erase these difficulties, we can ensure military heroes never face them alone,” said Kimberly Vosseteig, executive director of the American Red Cross serving Eastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota.

With our strong network of volunteer, donors, and partners, the Red Cross is always there for our military members, veterans and their families. We turn compassion into action by giving impactful help in times of need to military and veteran families in distress.
Last year, the Red Cross helped military families with more than 2,300 emergency communications across North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. For example, when a fire devasted a military family’s home, the Red Cross helped Sgt. Jason O’Connor get home within a day to support his family during the disaster.
About the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. It shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is not a governmental agency, but rather a not-for-profit humanitarian organization. The Minnesota and Dakotas Region of the Red Cross serves 7.3 million people in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and Douglas County (Superior) in Wisconsin.
