VIERA, FLA. – February 14, 2020 – Brevard County resident Kate Dilulio received the national Red Cross Certificate of Merit award in a ceremony at the Red Cross Space Coast chapter office in Melbourne. Dilulio was honored for her heroic actions last August when she called on her Adult First Aid/CPR training to save the life of a man who was struggling to breathe while running in Rockledge, Fla.
“It’s still pretty incredible to think about it,” said Dilulio. “I still run with my friend, and just to see him every week out there is pretty amazing.”
The Certificate of Merit is the highest honor the Red Cross can bestow. It’s given to an individual or team of individuals who save or sustain a life by using skills and knowledge learned in a Red Cross training course. It's signed by the President of the United States and is a tradition dating back to 1911. The award was presented by Space Coast Chapter Executive Director Rebecca DeLorenzo.
“We’re extremely proud to honor Kate and to have such a high-level national award recognized right here in Brevard County,” said DeLorenzo. “This recognition makes all of us at the Red Cross proud of the work and training services we provide every day to alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.”
