Regional Executive
ATLANTA – October 23, 2023 – The American Red Cross of Georgia announces Alicia Doherty as its new Regional Executive for one of the busiest Red Cross regions in the country. Doherty will officially step into her new position on November 25 and will be based out of the regional headquarters in Atlanta, where she will oversee Red Cross programs and services for 159 counties in eight Red Cross chapters.
Doherty currently serves as the Regional Donor Services Executive for Georgia, within Biomedical Services of the Red Cross where she has oversight of blood drive operations and whole blood collections. She replaces former Regional CEO Dee Dixon, who accepted a new position as Division Fundraising Vice President for the Southeast Caribbean and Carolinas with the Red Cross this summer.
“It is an incredible honor to step into this role and lead the Red Cross team in Georgia,” said Doherty. “My Red Cross career thus far has been in biomedical services, and I am excited about the opportunity to engage in a different capacity and support all lines of service.”
The American Red Cross of Georgia serves about 10 million people across the state with the support of a large volunteer workforce, blood and financial donors and community partners. Through the 2023 fiscal year, the Red Cross of Georgia provided assistance to over 13,700 people following more than 2,800 local disasters; trained over 84,000 individuals in First Aid, CPR, AED and water safety courses; served over 7,700 military, veterans and families through emergency and critical needs cases consisting of more than 19,000 individual case services; and collected more than 167,000 blood donations from generous volunteers to help supply area hospitals.
Doherty previously served as the Director of National Accounts and was responsible for the management of the biomedical services relationship with several of the largest corporate partners of the Red Cross. She started her career at the Red Cross in 2005 in Volunteer Services before transitioning to Donor Recruitment, where she held various positions, including Donor Recruitment Representative/Account Manager, Recruitment Supervisor, District Manager, and Director of LifeBoard which is a unique blood program with major corporations in Atlanta.
Actively involved in her community, Doherty currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. She is a graduate of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program class of 2010 and served as co-chair of the program in 2012.
Doherty earned her Bachelor of Science, as well as a Master of Science, from Georgia State University. She was a student-athlete at Georgia State where she was a captain on the women’s basketball team and a dean’s list honoree.
