[VALDOSTA, MAY 26, 2022] — Local volunteers and staff are celebrating a successful, final, weekend of the national ‘Sound The Alarm’ campaign in Valdosta, Georgia. Last Saturday, event participants worked to install nearly 70 free smoke alarms across the city. Additionally, 156 residents received home fire safety education and resources.
More than 200 lives have been saved as a direct result of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign in Georgia since it began in 2014. Much of the Campaign’s success is made possible thanks to community volunteers and supporters.
“The community really came together this year to support our first Sound the Alarm event in Valdosta since the start of the COVID, and we are grateful for all of our volunteer, staff, and partner support,” said Terri Jenkins, executive director of American Red Cross South Central Georgia.
One of those who have provided significant support to the Red Cross of Georgia mission is The Fogg Charitable Trust. The Trust has shared its passion for supporting the communities that Edward and Lisbeth Fogg so deeply treasured, and has gifted the Red Cross with more than $500,000 in total since 2017. A generous sum that went on to help save lives and better prepare Georgians for disasters big and small, including home fires.
The Red Cross appreciates everyone’s support for this year’s Sound the Alarm campaign and looks forward to continuing our collaboration to save lives in the Valdosta area.
