Make your appointment to give Aug. 13 and Aug. 15 at Gardner White furniture stores.
DETROIT (Aug. 7, 2024) – Blood donors can help replenish the American Red Cross blood supply by giving blood at an upcoming two-day blood drive in partnership with the Gardner White furniture store. Since July 1, the blood supply has fallen by more than 25%.
Torrential rains from Hurricane Debby have exacerbated a national blood shortage announced by the Red Cross on Monday. The Red Cross is working with hospitals around-the-clock to meet the needs of patients. Blood products are being sent to hospitals faster than donations are coming in.
Blood donors of all types, especially those with type O blood, are urgently needed. The type O inventory is so low, distributions of this vital blood type are below what hospitals count on.
Extreme heat waves impacted almost 100 blood drives in July in nearly every state where the Red Cross collects blood – compounding other seasonal obstacles to blood donation, such as travel and summer activities. Together, these factors contributed to a shortfall of more than 19,000 blood donations in July.
The blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, and Thursday, Aug. 15. Donors can make an appointment to give at Gardner White stores in southeast Michigan and in Saginaw. The Red Cross has been hosting blood drives with Gardner White for 24 years.
All presenting donors will each receive a $50 coupon toward a Gardner White purchase of $399 or more and be entered to win a $500 gift certificate at each blood drive store location. Also, donors who give through August will receive a $20 Amazon gift card by email.
To make an appointment to donate, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). In addition to the Gardner White blood drive, donors can give at other Red Cross blood drives or any of the eight Red Cross blood donation centers in Michigan.
Red Cross blood drives are being held at these Gardner White locations:
Thursday, Aug. 15, 11 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
