DETROIT (Jan. 5, 2023) – The American Red Cross kicks off National Blood Donor Month with longtime partner Gardner-White to host blood drives at 11 furniture store locations in the metro Detroit area and Saginaw. This marks the 23rd year of the collaboration.
The blood drives will be held from 11 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, and Thursday, Jan. 12. Donors will each receive a $50 coupon toward a Gardner-White purchase of $399 or more and be entered into a drawing for a $500 Gardner-White gift certificate to be awarded at each store.
Last month’s winter storm caused more than 300 blood drives to be cancelled across the country. This resulted in about 9,000 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. Donations collected at these drives will boost the blood supply for people in Michigan who are in immediate need of lifesaving care, said Jamila Wilson, a donor recruitment account manager with the Red Cross in Michigan.
“With January being National Blood Donor Month, what better way to kick off the new year by giving blood,” Wilson said. “It’s a selfless act and could help save lives. Blood donations help ensure new moms, premature babies, cancer patients and accident victims have access to safe, lifesaving blood.”
