DETROIT (Jan. 12, 2025) – A team of American Red Cross volunteers from Michigan were headed to southern California Sunday to support the Red Cross disaster response operation and help those impacted by the wildfires.
Four volunteers will support emergency shelters, assist with equipment distribution and help families reunite after being separated by the wildfires. Four more volunteers are providing reunification support virtually from Michigan.
“We are grateful to our Michigan volunteers who will be supporting our team members and helping the people of southern California,” said Latoysa “Toy” Rooks, regional disaster officer of the Red Cross Michigan Region. “We are prepared to commit additional resources should the need arise, while still meeting the needs of our Michigan communities.”
The Michigan team will join more than 300 Red Cross disaster workers, many of whom have been impacted by the wildfires themselves, helping in southern California. The Red Cross is working closely with its partners to provide safe shelter, food, emotional support and other critical services.
