The American Red Cross held Community Day in Delran on Saturday, March 22. The free event, hosted by Holy Cross Preparatory Academy, invited the Delran community to learn more about Red Cross services along with the services available from numerous community partner organizations and businesses.

Virtua Heath Mobile Services offered free pediatric hearing, vision and dental screening in the parking lot. The Delran Fire Department brought fire engine #2 and Red Cross had emergency response vehicles as part of the Touch A Truck available for children. A New Jersey State Police helicopter touched down on the field alongside the school to the amazement and delight of many!

In addition to opportunities to learn Hands-Only CPR and disaster preparedness with the Red Cross, free health screenings like glucose and blood pressure, as well as Virtua’s Eat Well Mobile Farmer’s Market, were available compliments of Virtua Health.

Children also had the opportunity to meet Pedro, the adorable penguin the Red Cross features during the its Prepare With Pedro youth preparedness programs. The day held a wonderful turnout of community partners who participated in Community Day including Beacon of Hope, Burlington County Human Services, Delran Township, Delran Fire Department, Foodbank of South Jersey, Funzilla, Holy Cross Preparatory Academy, and Scouting America. Senator Troy Singleton and Assemblywoman Carol Murphy had an information table and the Honorable Senator Troy Singleton stopped by too!

We’re so very grateful to all who helped make Community Day happen, especially Holy Cross Preparatory Academy as our hosts, their students who volunteered to help at the event, and, of course, the many wonderful Red Cross volunteers who spent the day educating, informing and helping the Delran community be safer and better prepared for disaster.
