Hurricane Debby Response in PA
Days after Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida on Aug. 5, 2024, areas across Pennsylvania suffered the remnants of the storm, including catastrophic flooding and high winds. More than 60 Red Crossers provided relief across several PA counties.
From houses to apartment complexes, the Red Cross helps people who are displaced after fires. We provide food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional comfort, health services, financial assistance and other aid to help people in their time of greatest need.
Deploying Our Volunteers to National Relief Operations
Each year, dozens of Red Cross volunteers from Pennsylvania deploy to major disaster relief operations across the country to provide comfort and care after hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes and more.
Installing Free Smoke Alarms in Local Homes
In April and May alone, we installed more than 2,100 smoke alarms across Pennsylvania through our Sound the Alarm campaign. With the help of our donors, partners and volunteers, more than 1,700 Pennsylvanians are living in safer homes.
Each year, we host more than 5,000 blood drives right here in Pennsylvania to collect and distribute more than 112,000 blood products to patients in need.
New Program Offers Fresh Fruit to Veterans
Our Service to the Armed Forces volunteers visited veterans at local VA hospitals and asked if there was anything they wished for at their facility. One request stood out: more fresh fruit. Now, our volunteers provide produce during their VA visits.
