E. Murphy Markham IV retired from EnCap Investments in 2021, where he served as Managing Partner. With over 25 years in oil and gas banking, he held leadership roles at Bank of America, Bank One, and JPMorgan Chase, overseeing their national oil and gas banking groups. He has served as President of the Dallas Petroleum Club and on the boards of the Dallas Wildcat Committee and Fort Worth Wildcatters. A Texas Tech and University of Houston graduate, Murphy is passionate about philanthropy, founding The Markham Family Foundation to support global poverty relief. He is also deeply involved with Catholic Charities of Dallas and the American Red Cross.
E. Murphy Markham IV retired from EnCap Investments L.P. in March of 2021 where he served as a Managing Partner. EnCap Investments is one of the largest private equity firms providing equity capital to the upstream and midstream oil & gas sectors.
Prior to joining EnCap Investments, Murphy had a 25-year career in oil & gas banking. He spent 21 years with Bank of America and its predecessors in their Houston, Denver, Midland, and Dallas offices. Murphy left his Managing Director role at Bank of America to join Bank One where he ran the oil & gas banking group nationally. Upon the merger between Bank One and JPMorgan Chase, Murphy assumed a similar role managing JPMorgan Chase’s oil & gas banking group nationally.
He is the Past President of the Dallas Petroleum Club where he served on the Board of Directors for several years. Murphy is also the Past Chairman of the Dallas Wildcat Committee and served on its Board of Directors for years as well as on the board of the Fort Worth Wildcatters.
Murphy received his BBA in Finance from Texas Tech University in 1980 and then his MBA in Accounting from the University of Houston in 1984.
Murphy is passionate about service to the less fortunate. He established and funded The Markham Family Foundation with its mission statement to serve the poor and needy throughout the world. The foundation actively supports various entities worldwide in their pursuance of ending poverty and helping those in most need.
Murphy has been very active with Catholic Charities of Dallas and the American Red Cross.
