Rosemary Barnes, a dedicated American Red Cross volunteer, passed away on September 6 in her Texas home surrounded by family and friends. She and her husband, Bobby Jolls, started their Red Cross journey more than 14 years ago and assisted in several local large-scale responses. Throughout her Red Cross career, Rosemary served in a variety of roles, including sheltering, feeding, donor calls, teaching CPR and first aid, and more.
In 2013 Rosemary received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her hours of service to the organization, later that same year she received the Mentorship Award from the then Texoma Area Chapter, and in 2014 she received the Citation for Exceptional Service from the Texoma Area Chapter.
She was born in Utica, New York on March 3, 1939 and enjoyed traveling, gambling, and loved to dance. She was active in her church, St. Francis of Assisi and the Red Hat Society.
Rosemary is survived by her husband, Bobby Jolls of Gordonville, son David Barnes Jr. (Jean); son, Eric Barnes (Julie); and daughter, Pam Barnes (Kelly Dickson); grandchildren: Alex, Blair, Kathlyn, Brian, Brady and Braden. Her sister, Marjorie Ellen Gordon, and numerous other loving family and friends will treasure her memory.
