DALLAS, Nov. 7, 2024 — This Veterans Day, the American Red Cross North Texas Region honors veterans for their service and sacrifice, which inspires thousands of Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces employees and volunteers across North Texas and beyond to support service members, veterans and their families.
U.S. Army Veteran Gives Back Through Red Cross Hero Care Network. After serving in the U.S. Army for 20 years, veteran Sean Day found a renewed sense of purpose through his work with the Red Cross at the Hero Care Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
The Hero Care Center assists military families during medical emergencies or significant life events, ensuring service members receive emergency communication messages while deployed. Last year alone, the center facilitated over 621,500 calls nationwide. Specialists like Day verify events and coordinate with military commands to bring service members home.
The work is especially meaningful to Day, who once received an emergency communication about his own grandfather’s illness while stationed in Germany, allowing him to return home and be with his grandfather in his final days.
This experience fuels Day’s dedication. “Every case where we’re able to help somebody makes me feel good,” he shares. His work verifying emergencies and connecting service members with resources and assistance is both vital and deeply rewarding.
