It’s AmeriCorps Week and the American Red Cross salutes the members who are currently supporting us in helping get people prepared for emergencies.
At present as many as 78 AmeriCorps members are helping the Red Cross teach people about preparedness, including a special team who support our Service to the Armed Forces by teaching members of the military, their families and veterans about how to be ready for emergencies.
In the first half of FY 2018, AmeriCorps members have reached more than 17,400 youth, teaching them about being prepared through the Red Cross Pillowcase Project. They have also helped more than 12,100 people through our Home Fire Campaign and trained volunteers to help teach people about both efforts.
AmeriCorps engages service-minded Americans in intensive community outreach each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.
AmeriCorps members help achieve the Red Cross mission by focusing on under-resourced communities providing much needed services that community members may not be able to afford.
AmeriCorps members are dedicated to providing disaster preparedness education to underserved neighborhoods, schools, and communities and also responding to the needs of individuals and families when an emergency does occur. Additionally, members engage the community with Red Cross health and safety programs including CPR, First Aid, emergency preparedness training, programming for individuals with disabilities and functional needs, youth programs and more.
