Did you know you can give one super-powered blood donation that may have the same impact as two regular donations? At the American Red Cross, this is called a Power Red donation.
Red blood cells are the most frequently used blood component and are needed by almost every type of patient requiring transfusion. During this type of donation, red blood cells are separated from other blood components, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor. Each Power Red donation gives more of the product that is needed most by patients.
Eligible individuals with types O, A negative and B negative blood are urged to make a Power Red donation, where available.
To make an appointment to give, use the Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Power Red takes approximately 30 minutes longer than a whole blood donation and can be donated approximately every four months.
