Alesha Truini received a Red Cross Lifesaving Award at a ceremony conducted by the Central Florida Region for saving Bryar’s life.
During Red Cross Month and throughout the year, the American Red Cross encourages people to learn First Aid, CPR and how to use an AED. The knowledge and skills you learn can help give you the confidence to act in an emergency and save a life.
A trip to the beach nearly turned deadly for Monique Davis and her family. Their 4-year-old son, Bryar, stopped breathing until Alesha Truini stepped into action to save the little boy. She used the skills and knowledge from the lifesaving CPR training she had just learned the day before due to her employment in the childcare industry.
“I got down and I started doing compressions,” said Truini. “I was counting to 30 and the girl next to me kept checking for a pulse. I finally heard her say ‘He’s got a pulse!’” Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards. Bryar was transported to the hospital by helicopter and ended up making a full recovery.
Truini received a Red Cross Lifesaving Award for her efforts at a ceremony conducted by the Central Florida Region. “It changed my life forever that day,” she said. “I feel more eager to live life to the fullest. I just hope to get the word out and get people more motivated to get CPR and First Aid certified so if something like this ever happens to somebody else, they can save that person as well.”
TRAINING can give you the knowledge and skills to act in an emergency. In-person and online courses are available. Instructors provide individual feedback during in-person training sessions and use “peer-to-peer learning.” Everyone who is in a class is divided into teams and takes turns playing the role of coach, observer and lifesaver. It’s a proven way to actively learn and retain what you’ve learned.
