The curriculum includes courses for Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. A Red Cross-issued certificate will be provided to healthcare professionals upon their successful completion of the curriculum.
We have also launched a new First Aid for Severe Bleeding online course so people can learn what to do until emergency help arrives. The online course curriculum includes contains content on how to recognize and care for life-threatening bleeding, including when and how to apply different types of tourniquets, when to use hemostatic dressing (a dressing with an agent on it for quickly clotting blood) and how to recognize and care for someone in shock.
The Red Cross is also offering First Aid for Opioid Overdoses - an online course to teach people how to respond to a known or suspected opioid overdose. The 45-minute online course contains content on how to identify the signs and symptoms of a suspected opioid overdose and the appropriate care to provide based on the responsiveness of the person. Information on how to use several different naloxone products – including a nasal atomizer, Narcan® Nasal Spray and EVZIO® – to temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose is also included.
