On May 25-29, WPTV News Channel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle held his annual Ride for the Red Cross virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s virtual ride was hosted at the WPTV news station in West Palm Beach, Fla., with new and unique ways for donors and the community to show their support.
Two years ago, funds raised were allocated to purchase a new Next Generation Emergency Response Vehicle - thanks to the tremendous generosity and support of WPTV, Steve and the community.
Days before Steve’s virtual ride kicked off, the Red Cross received the new emergency response vehicle at their West Palm Beach chapter office. Just in time to show how generous contributions will help the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast community.
This year, Steve’s virtual ride raised more than $75,000 and was broadcasted live on WPTV throughout the week, celebrating over 20 years of riding for the Red Cross and showcasing “Thank You” videos made by local partners and sponsors.
A special thank you to all the sponsors who supported Steve’s virtual ride: Office Depot, ADT, Marine Associates of Palm Beach County, Lee Pearlson Steinberg Foundation and all other contributing sponsors for their wonderful support this year.
Every year, Steve usually makes his way from Sebastian to Boca to mark the beginning of hurricane season, educate residents on hurricane preparedness and raise critical funds to support the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.
Although Steve’s Ride went virtual, the support from the community remained. We are incredibly grateful to have the dedication and support of WPTV, Steve Weagle and the community during these evolving times.
#EmergenciesDontStop during a pandemic, and neither does the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.
