Thousands of Red Cross volunteers are dedicated to working with individuals and families who have experienced a disaster or other crisis, to ensure they receive the services, information and support they need.
These opportunities may be right for you if you are empathetic, resourceful, and a good communicator who is comfortable working with diverse populations. Your role will include problem solving for your clients and, in most cases, both one-on-one interaction and admin work. Experience in casework, case management, customer service or counseling can be helpful but is not required for every position. Good computer skills are essential; knowledge of case management systems is helpful. Since “Client Facing” positions involve working directly with people affected by disaster, you may find these roles to be deeply rewarding but emotionally stressful.
Work location will primarily be at your local Red Cross chapter office, although some positions can be done from home. Time commitments vary by position but “Client Facing” assignments typically require a weekly shift.
All necessary training will be provided.
I feel that I contribute to those that are in the greatest need. I belong. I’m part of a community. I’m serving a purpose that will be remembered long after I’m gone.
Hillary Sandy, Volunteer, Service to the Armed Forces (SAF)
